21 S. CALIFORNIA ST. - VENTURA

Crowning the center of the downtown commercial district is this four-storied bank building with elements of the Renaissance revival style. The interior is striking with elegant chandeliers, columns and decorative moldings. Built in 1926 by architect H. H. Winner, the building, in its time, was home to six banks. The buildings had the first elevator in Ventura County. Erle Stanley Gardner produced the drafts for his first Perry Mason novels in his second law office above the bank. Nu-Line Partners was commissioned to remodel the 1st - 3rd floors of the building for the owner. The interiors included a full gut of the existing finishes and infrastructure work to bring the building up to code. The finishes included custom millwork paneling, casework, mahogany crown molding and door frames, refinishing of the existing 1920s doors, refinishing of the existing woof flooring, and modern amenities for commercial office space. The palette is a combination of a neutral color scheme that accentuate the existing architecture and style of the 1920s.
